Gettin' the Worm
04:16
|
|||
Early bird, Who's getting you?
What's the time?
Did you sleep through?
When did you fall asleep?
Early bird, that song you sing
it don't sound so good
No-one's listening
Did you think this through?
They've got their sights set on you...
Early bird, you cashed all your checks
They watched you die
They got so upset they fell off their beds
And they hit their heads
They got so upset they lost their shoes
And recalled abuse
So sad to lose, they watched you bleed
They had to see...
They've got their sights set on you...
Early bird, I'm so glad you're fine
You lost your mind
But these things take time
We'll get you on your feet, our early bird...

We're the only family on the street who doesn't celebrate the holidays
We don't decorate, no no...
And everyone in the neighborhood is up our ass about it
They're all about it...
They're all in competition with each other
It's as if we're crashing their party
We're the only house on the block that you can see
All other directions flare with glares of the latest LED technology
And we don't buy it, no...
And everyone in the neighborhood is up our ass about it
They're all about it
We're... not so much
They're all in competition with each other
It's as if we're crashing their party
It's as if we ruined the game
It's as if we threw it away
Well, someone took it from your grave
It was never ours to give
And why'd we do that, anyway?
Gravediggers...

Salome
02:39
|
|||
Salome, you made the list
You get whatever you wish!
"Mommy, what do I want?"
"You want his head"
"I want his head?"
Salome
"What do I want?"
"You want his head."
"I want his head?"
"I want his head..."

Running From Mirrors
03:47
|
|||
So you saw it again, you were looking in the mirror
You didn't trust your friends but your hair is getting thinner
And reflections never lie, they can't, they're unable
So you're running away from an intimate observance
Like it has the plague underneath the surface
Old age is coming
Old age is coming fast
And with a vengeance
Out of your past, you're pulling tricks trying to make your life a mural
But even steady sharks start shaking near a funeral
And when you hear the roar inside
Come on, never let it out
Never let it out
Bottle it up and seal it with an empty promise like you do
Then start running again...
The marathon begins
And maybe you'll beat yourself to the grave...
You start backing up when you notice your arrival
But you're tuckered out, and no supper on the table
And food is the last thing on your mind as you're staring at your tombstone
Stare at your tombstone one more time and think of all the mirrors left behind...

Some people say they're weak so they can find a way to go to sleep
And some people just act dumb so you can think
But who's the dummy?
Finding out everything all at once is not enticing
It invokes an inner rage that aligns with the poorest timing
I guess there's a better way...
Some people ain't the same once they connect with a higher purpose
And some people aren't as strange as they can seem when watching tv
Digging up a lovers past and baking a mud pie
It ensures you'll never last and dessert will be leftover
I guess there's a better way...
If god isn't what he seems and he's not a he
What's all around me?
If god isn't make believe and he's not a he
What's all around me?
Finding out everything all at once is not enticing
It invokes an inner rage that aligns with the poorest timing
I guess there's a better way...

Gift Exchange
04:16
|
|||
I'm on my way to see my girl then I'm gone again
And I haven't changed even a little since we became sour
And your cheeks implode while your lips contact the lie
On its way inside, crossing paths with another lie
Sour...

End of Story
04:44
|
|||
When it hits you and you're fully realized
In your blankets, horrified
And it's hard to see you cry, we tried
In the ocean the highest tide comes when the truth and you reconcile
For a while...
Your life as a list
Your life as a list, wrapped as a gift
Show's lies have and will persist
Wave goodbye
There's a sequence who's apparent claws scratch the sides of the walls that line your mind's eye
Every time you look out into the night
Think twice...
It's what we tried to hide...

Blacklight
03:42
|
|||
We concede
See we have needs
Most come cheap
Now it follows me
It's echoing is enchanting
it's enchanting
Let's see if I have this right
If I believe I'll see the light
Then give me sight...
The winter's long and I miss the sun
We almost won...

Your Dad's Shoes
05:16
|
|||
When you topple over
and you said what you said
the lady sings until you're sober
Just to remind you she's there
But don't be scared...
There's a heart made of trembles
It finds a love uncompared
And suddenly she's not as shaky
She acts just like it's before the accident...
There's more to come...
There's an underpaid rental
He puts his life on the spare
He only wants to impress Laura
She's the talk of the fair with her winter glare
The first time I had seen you in handcuffs
I knew your life before mine
I found myself getting angry at what I couldn't define
But now I try
There's more to come...
There's a beach by the boardwalk
I tried to show all my friends
It's as empty as a treehouse
The kids were forced to defend and then abandon
Cause Dad got a new job
He won't speak the details
'For sale' sign's up, your dad was fired
Save your tears for the day it's you in your dad's shoes...

Robots In an Eggplant
04:22
|
|||
I leave eggs everywhere for people to find
But no one's looking anywhere I lay them
I decorate everyday meticulously
I put my special touch to all of them
And sometimes I notice a big mistake
But imperfections make the eggs great
It shows they're made by human hands
And not by robots in an eggplant
I wish you would have never left
cause this last egg could be sunlit
Another hand can make a normal day a masterpiece
Until the egg splits
Another mess we'd have to forfeit
And now it's junk I have to deal with
Cause it's all I have
It's all I have...
